“Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from punishment.” Joel 2:13b (NRSV)
The above scripture reading is a great one to reflect on as we head into the Lenten season this month. I don’t know about you, but the idea that God is slow to anger but quick to forgive is comforting; especially during a period that is meant for us to spend time reflecting on our own actions each day. It is a time set aside for us to reconcile our actions to the will of God and the teachings of Jesus. What the above reading tells me though, is that as we reflect on our own actions, we should also reflect on the actions of those who have maybe hurt us. This is our chance to embody the grace and forgiveness of God in our relationship with others.
Lent is the perfect season to set some time aside, each day, to simply sit with God. Take the time to think about the gifts we have been given and how we can use them in the name of Jesus Christ. Each Sunday during Lent I will be providing you with a different “meditation” or “reflection” method that you can use in the following week. I am looking forward to hearing what each reflection produces for you.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Lesley
