May 2026
“And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.” Acts 2: 2-4 (NRSV)
My last class in seminary was called, “Constructive Theology” where I had to take the theological concepts I had learned throughout all of my previous classes and put them together in a way that made sense for me. In this project I had to try and articulate my understanding of the Godhead; my Trinitarian understanding tells me that God is a threefold being and is present in God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. A lot of times in our faith practice we focus so heavily on “God the Father” and “God the Son” but, this month, “God the Holy Spirit” takes the spotlight of our attention.
The Holy Spirit is the one part of the three-fold Godhead that remains with us in our daily lives. It is the part of God whose voice we listen for and rely on to guide us through the trials and tribulations of life. As we walk our way through this beautiful springtime month of May, let’s take time to open our heart and minds to the work and words of the Holy Spirit. If we let the Spirit guide us, as opposed to our human will, we cannot step wrong.
Grace and Peace to all of you.
Blessings,
Pastor Lesley
